Trip Highlights

  • Rio de Janeiro (UNESCO World Heritage Site): Recognized for its unique “Carioca Landscapes between the Mountain and the Sea,” Rio is one of the few major cities where rainforest, mountains and iconic beaches come together within the urban landscape. From Christ the Redeemer and Sugarloaf Mountain to Ipanema and Arpoador, the city offers a striking introduction to Brazil’s relationship with nature, culture and urban life.

  • Manaus & the Meeting of the Waters: Once known as the “Paris of the Tropics” during the rubber boom, Manaus remains the main gateway to the Brazilian Amazon. One of its most remarkable natural encounters is the Meeting of the Waters, where the dark Rio Negro and the sandy-coloured Solimões flow side by side for several kilometres before their waters eventually merge.

  • Anavilhanas Archipelago & the Rio Negro: One of the world’s largest river archipelagos, Anavilhanas stretches across the Rio Negro with hundreds of islands, flooded forests and winding waterways. The landscape changes with the river level, revealing beaches in the dry season and transforming forest trails into aquatic routes during the floods, while encounters with river communities bring another layer to the experience.
